California law enforcement charged 53-year-old Arkete Davis and his 10-year-old son following an incident where the young boy used a stolen firearm to fatally shoot another 10-year-old, according to Fox 11 and CNN.

According to authorities, the son discovered the weapon inside his father's vehicle. Responding to reports of a shooting in Sacramento County, the police found the second boy unconscious and bleeding from head and neck injuries. The 10-year-old victim was transported to the hospital but was later declared deceased.

“Simultaneously, witnesses at the scene told Deputies that the individual(s) responsible for the shooting ran into a nearby apartment,” the police said, adding that an adult and two juveniles that were found there were taken into custody.

"One of the juveniles detained, also a 10-year-old male, went to his father’s (Davis) vehicle to get him cigarettes. He then took a gun from inside the vehicle and bragged that his father had a gun," the police reported.

After firing a single shot at the victim, he fled into an apartment. Detectives found a firearm in a nearby trashcan, indicating Davis's alleged attempt to hide it. Subsequent investigation discovered that a gun had been reported stolen in 2017 and Davis was legally banned from owning a firearm.

In addition to child endangerment and accessory to a crime after the fact, Davis faces several felony firearm charges. His son, held in a youth detention facility, is charged with murder.

Shootings in the U.S.

This incident is one of the many that happened in the U.S. because of insufficient control measures for gun possession. For example, on Christmas two teenage brothers were arrested in Florida after their sister died in a fight over Christmas presents. 23-year-old sister, who had a 10-month-old son, was shot in the chest by her 14-year-old brother.

On December 25, a fatal shooting happened at the Citadel Mall in Colorado Springs, resulting in one death and three injuries. The shooting happened after a fight broke out between two groups.

On December 14, there was a shooting in Muskegon, Michigan, that resulted in the death of a 20-year-old resident.

The issue of shootings is a heating topic for gun control debate in the U.S. President Joe Biden reacted and appealed to the GOP, urging them to cooperate on gun control measures in response to recent shootings in Texas and Nevada amid a "gun violence epidemic."
