Cabinet of Ministers approves new Romania-Ukraine border checkpoint
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a draft agreement with the government of Romania regarding the opening of a new international crossing point along the Ukrainian-Romanian state border in the Zakarpattia region, according to the decree number 710-r dated August 15, 2023.
The crossing point will be established between the towns of Bila Tserkva (Ukraine) and Sighetu Marmaţiei (Romania).
A bridge is currently under construction across the Tisza River at the Ukrainian-Romanian border. Construction of the bridge in Romania began in June. Several preparatory works have already been completed, including reinforcement of the future road surface.
According to the project, a new 1.2 km road, bridges, a roundabout, and a new border checkpoint with a parking area will be built.
Also, Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) has restored approximately 20 kilometers of railway track in the Carpathian Mountains up to the border with Romania. This railway was initially built during the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the 1890s.
Following this, Ukraine and Romania reestablished railway connectivity on the Rahiv-Dilove-Valea Vișeului route.
