Ukraine won't be able to win the war against Russia in the near future. However, the Ukrainian army may gain an advantage in 2025 with the appropriate support from European arms manufacturers, according to the head of the EU Affairs Committee in the Bundestag, Anton Hofreiter.

He assesses the war situation as critical.

"It is very important for the Ukrainian army to hold the front line this year," said Hofreiter.

He adds that offensive actions by Ukraine are unlikely. "I don't see Ukraine being able to launch an offensive this year. There is a lack of resources, including ammunition and support from the US," adds the politician.

He notes that if the production of ammunition and other equipment in Europe increases, by 2025 Ukraine will be able to "gain the upper hand in the defensive war against Russia." According to him, provided that Russia does not make further territorial seizures, it remains "the best Ukraine can do in the coming months."

Germany's assistance to Ukraine

Germany has become one of the countries assisting Ukraine by providing military, political, and financial support. Berlin has provided several types of artillery, Leopard tanks of older and newer modifications, IRIS-T and Patriot air defense systems, ammunition, vehicles, drones, and other types of armament.

Germany also announced that in 2024 it will double its military aid to Ukraine to 8 billion euros.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also helped Ukraine with European integration issues.

Recently, Scholz announced that Germany would provide Ukraine with a new package of military aid, including howitzers, anti-aircraft guns, and missiles for air defense systems.
