Bundestag considers urging government to provide long-range weapons to Ukraine
The ruling parties in Germany are preparing an appeal to the government to transfer long-range weapons to Ukraine, reports Tagesschau.
According to the publication, the parliamentary factions of the SPD, Greens, and Free Democrats, which are part of the traffic light coalition, want to initiate the consideration of a resolution calling on the government to expand military aid to Ukraine.
"This includes the delivery of additional necessary long-range weapons systems and ammunition," the project specifies.
However, the Taurus long-range missiles are not mentioned in the resolution project.
Taurus for Ukraine
Ukraine has been calling on Germany since last year to start supplying long-range Taurus missiles, capable of destroying targets up to 500 kilometers away.
But Berlin has so far refused such deliveries. According to media reports, Chancellor Olaf Scholz is against it. He is concerned that the missiles could be used to strike Russian territory.
Recently, the German CDU/CSU party submitted a resolution project to the Bundestag calling for the provision of Taurus to Ukraine, but it was not supported.
