Bulgaria allows its army to participate in training of Ukrainian military
The Bulgarian government has authorized members of the Bulgarian Armed Forces to participate in the NATO Security Training and Assistance to Ukraine (NSATU) mission, according to the press service of the Bulgarian government.
"By adopting this decision, our country clearly demonstrates its commitment to supporting Ukraine, upholding Euro-Atlantic values, and reaffirms its solidarity with the Alliance in joint efforts to maintain international peace and security," the Bulgarian government said.
They added that, given the proximity of the war in Ukraine to Bulgaria's borders and the importance of this conflict for European security, "our country's contribution to NSATU is in line with the efforts of other Allies."
It is not yet known how many Bulgarian servicemen will be involved in training the Ukrainian military.
What is NSATU
At the NATO summit in July, the Allies agreed to establish a security assistance and training unit NSATU to assist and train Ukraine. The structure will coordinate the provision of military equipment and training to Ukraine from NATO member states and partners.
NSATU will operate on the territory of NATO member states and will support Ukraine's self-defense in accordance with the UN Charter.
