Bucha massacre: Four Russian soldiers charged with civilian killings

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine has sent indictments to the court against four Russian soldiers suspected of killing civilians. Six more Russians have been notified of suspicion, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office.
It is noted that during the occupation of the city of Bucha in the Kyiv region in March 2022, a group of Russian soldiers from different units of the 234th Air Assault Regiment of the 76th Air Assault Division of the Airborne Force carried out killings of civilians.
The victims included both patriotic citizens and random passersby. What the Russians did:
-
A gunner from the 234th Assault Airborne Regiment shot two civilians preparing food over a campfire during a patrol in March 2022;
-
Several soldiers fired at passersby near a school in Bucha, killing a woman and wounding two men;
-
Several Russian soldiers conducted interrogations of civilians, subjecting them to beatings and torture to extract information about the locations of Ukrainian Defense Forces units.
"Additionally, prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General have identified and served with a notice of charges to six more Russian servicemen. They are charged with violations of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder, as well as cruel treatment of civilians (Parts 1 and 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the statement reads.
Russia's war crimes
Recently, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) served Russian soldier Sergey Tuzhilov with a notice of charges. He faces life imprisonment for the alleged execution of a Ukrainian prisoner of war.
The SBU also managed to identify Russian military personnel who tortured civilians during the occupation of parts of the Kyiv region. On July 1, nine Russians were notified of suspicion by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
