Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure

As the autumn-winter season approaches, russian forces have been carrying out massive missile and drone attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure almost daily, both day and night.

On the night of Sunday, October 5, the Russian army launched a record number of missiles and drones at Lviv and the Lviv region. The strikes caused power outages and disrupted public transportation in the city.

Energy facilities were also targeted in Zaporizhzhia, Cherkasy, Sumy, Chernihiv, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.

On Saturday, October 4, the Sumy region was attacked with Shahed drones. As a result, the city of Shostka and the Shostka community were left without electricity, gas, and water.

On October 1, Russia damaged energy infrastructure facilities in the city of Slavutych, leading to blackouts in parts of the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions, as well as at a shelter facility on the Chornobyl nuclear power plant site.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced retaliatory strikes on Russia’s energy sector.

Blackouts in Russia

The first blackout in Belgorod and parts of the region took place on September 28. Electricity was restored to residents only on September 30.
