The EU will summon the Russian ambassador in Brussels to protest the damage caused to the EU delegation during the attack on Kyiv, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said.

She said she had spoken with EU diplomats in Kyiv after Russia's attack on the EU delegation.

Kallas said the EU would call in the Russian ambassador in Brussels to protest the attack.

Foreign policy representative Anitta Hipper added a little more on the subject:

"I confirm that we will be summoning the Russian chargé d’affaires. This meeting will still take place today, so I can debrief you after that. But fact is also that no diplomatic mission should be ever [a] target to two strikes. So this is our response to this question."

Russian attack on Kyiv

On the night of August 28, the Russian army launched a massive combined attack on Kyiv. Not only were civilian targets hit, but also diplomatic institutions. In particular, the building of the European Union mission in Ukraine was damaged.

According to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, 2 Russian missiles fell 50 meters from the EU representation within 20 seconds.

According to European Council President António Costa, the Russians deliberately damaged the EU mission building.

He stressed that the EU would not be intimidated by such strikes and that Russian aggression only strengthened the EU's determination to support Ukraine and its people.
