The British Army has begun receiving new Ajax armored personnel carriers, but critical flaws have already been identified in the first production units, according to Sky News.

According to analysts, the Ajax, costing 10 million dollars and weighing over 40 tons, is potentially vulnerable to Russian drones. However, in the UK, it is advertised as a next-generation combat vehicle, equipped with cameras, protective armor, and a 40 mm cannon with rounds capable of penetrating concrete.

One of the key problems of the new vehicle is excessive noise and vibration. After a series of test drives, 17 soldiers required treatment due to hearing damage.

It is known that the new armored vehicles are produced in six variants, with the primary type being intended for reconnaissance and combat operations.

In total, the British Army has ordered 589 different Ajax models, which it anticipates receiving by 2030.

This is the first new armored fighting vehicle to enter service in nearly three decades, replacing outdated equipment dating back to the 1970s.

Delays in deliveries

Launched more than a decade and a half ago, the Ajax program was initially scheduled to reach its operational milestone in 2017, but this date has been repeatedly postponed.

The most serious delay occurred when testing was suspended after soldiers suffered hearing damage and other injuries due to loud noise and vibrations. That is why everyone using Ajax today must wear special headphones.

UK modernizes its forces

British troops in the Latvian forests tested new battlefield technologies and prepared for a possible war with Russia, utilizing innovative means.

Thanks to increased production by domestic companies, the UK delivered more than 85,000 military drones to Ukraine in six months, accelerating support to the front.
