Britain extends sanctions against Russia, adding 10 new vessels
The UK government reported that it has expanded the sanctions list against Russia by adding 10 new ships. Additionally, London has made an administrative amendment to the sanctions regime against Iran.
Among the ships added to the sanctions list are oil tankers such as Nikolya Zuyev, SCF Vankor, Vladimir Tikhonov, SCF Baltica, NS ASIA, Leonid Loza, Olimpiysky Prospect, NS CLIPPER, NS CORONA, and a Panama-flagged tanker Zaliv Aniva.
The government reports that these vessels are involved in transporting Russian-origin oil and oil products to third countries, which contributes to the destabilization of Ukraine and violates its territorial integrity and sovereignty by supporting the Russian government.
Sanctions against Russia
Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has been subject to 14 sanctions packages from the European Union in response to its aggression.
In late June, a new package was approved, targeting Russian propagandists, cultural figures, the mother of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, and FSB employees. Details about those who have been sanctioned by the EU can be found in RBC-Ukraine's report.
In June, the UK first imposed sanctions on ships from the so-called shadow fleet of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, which, according to London, are used to bypass Western restrictions on trading Russian oil.
In July, the UK expanded its sanctions regime by adding 11 new Russian maritime vessels to the list.
