Brazilian President won't fly to Putin for BRICS summit: Reason explained
Russian leader Vladimir Putin has recently refused to travel to Brazil for the G20 summit. Today it became known that the Brazilian president canceled his trip to Russia for the BRICS summit, reports CNN Brazil.
The publication, referring to a medical bulletin, writes that Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva suffered a head injury, namely, a “cut and blunt wound in the occipital region.” The team that treated the president advised him not to make long-distance air travel. Thus, the trip to Kazan was canceled. Lula da Silva is currently under the supervision of a medical team.
At the same time, he was allowed to perform other daily tasks, so the Brazilian president will join the BRICS summit online.
“Due to his injury, Lula will not be attending the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia. The Chairman of the Executive Committee will participate in the meeting via video conference. He was supposed to board the plane this Sunday at 5 p.m.,” the statement said.
On October 18, Putin refused to go to the G20 summit in Brazil, where he could be arrested on a warrant from the International Criminal Court. At the same time, he said that the ICC's decision was “easy to circumvent.”
