Brazilian president criticizes Trump for wanting to become 'emperor of the world'

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva accused US President Donald Trump of attempting to become the "emperor of the world." He pointed to the American leader's behavior as evidence of this, AFP informs.
According to the Brazilian president, democracy after World War II was the best model of governance in the past 70 years. However, "the way (Trump) acts, he is trying to become an emperor of the world."
"He is trying to chime in on all countries and in all public policies," Lula da Silva clarified.
He urged Trump to "realize that the sovereignty of each country must be respected."
The Brazilian president also reiterated that the United States is an important commercial partner for Brazil and called for more gestures of "friendship."
"We want this protectionism to stop," he said, referring to the tariffs Washington imposed on Brazilian goods such as steel.
Trump’s controversial statements
Just yesterday, on February 19, US President Donald Trump claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is a "dictator without elections."
The American leader warned that if the Ukrainian president does not act quickly, he may be left without a country.
Trump has also repeatedly referred to Canada as the 51st state of the US and has expressed plans to gain control over Greenland and the Panama Canal.
