The Russian army has changed its tactics in using equipment near the border with the Sumy region and has shifted to small assault groups. The enemy is attempting to advance deeper into Ukrainian territory and expand the combat zone, according to Ukrainian Border Guard Service spokesperson Andrii Demchenko.

According to him, the situation at the border with the Sumy region is currently difficult, as Russian forces are trying to enter Ukrainian territory.

"This is not a border breakthrough because, in fact, the enemy is currently unable to use equipment there. Instead, they are trying to deploy small assault groups whose task is to advance deeper into Ukraine, consolidate, and expand the active combat zone. However, our forces, including Border Guard and Armed Forces units, are using all available weapons to strike the enemy," Demchenko said.

He noted that some time ago, Russian forces attempted to use equipment in the direction of the village of Zhuravka in an effort to break through the border. However, their vehicles barely reached the border before being destroyed.

"As for the direction of the village of Novenke, the terrain does not allow the enemy to use columns of equipment, so their tactic is to send soldiers on assaults, essentially to die, hoping they will achieve some objective," Demchenko explained.

He also suggested that the Russian goal could be to encircle Ukrainian forces operating in the Kursk region, as the situation there is also complicated.

"We see reports from the General Staff indicating that our defenders are repelling dozens of assault attacks that the enemy is launching against Ukrainian positions," he added.

Situation in Sumy region

At the end of February, reports surfaced online about an alleged breakthrough by Russian terrorists in the village of Novenke. However, this was later refuted.

Earlier, Demchenko stated that Russian forces are attempting to expand the active combat zone along the region's border. At the same time, they are sending small assault groups toward Novenke, trying to establish positions there.
