On January 31, vehicle and cargo crossings at the Ukraine-Moldova border were temporarily suspended. The reason is a failure of the central databases of Moldova’s customs authorities, according to the press service of the State Customs Service of Ukraine.
"We inform you that at the Ukraine-Moldova border, the passage of vehicles and goods has been temporarily suspended due to the failure of the central databases of the customs authorities of the Republic of Moldova," the statement said.
Citizens and international carriers are asked to take this information into account when planning to cross the border.
Additional information on the resumption of border clearance operations will be provided later.
Mass power outage in Ukraine and Moldova
As reported earlier, on the morning of January 31 a technological disruption occurred between the power systems of Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine, leading to a simultaneous disconnection of electricity networks.
This triggered a cascading failure in Ukraine’s power grid and the activation of automatic protection systems at substations. Nuclear power plant units were taken offline.
As a result, emergency power outages were introduced in Ukraine in the morning hours.
In Kyiv and Kharkiv, metro train services were suspended due to the lack of power. In Kyiv and other cities, authorities also reported disruptions to water and heat supply.
In addition, a voltage drop was recorded in Moldova on the Isaccea-Vulcănești-Moldavskaya GRES high-voltage line due to serious problems in Ukraine’s energy system.
Power outages were reported in Chișinău and its suburbs, as well as in Taraclia, Cahul, and Anenii Noi.
More details on the situation and where power outages are currently reported can be found in the RBC-Ukraine report.
