Biden willing to meet with House speaker over Ukraine aid bill, Reuters
US President Joe Biden has agreed to hold a meeting with House Speaker Mike Johnson to discuss new aid funding for Ukraine, reports Reuters.
"Sure I’d be happy to meet with him, if he has anything to say," Biden said.
He added that the Republicans are making a big mistake by opposing the help Ukraine needs in the war with the Russian invaders.
The president also added that the Republicans are making a big mistake by "walking away from the threat of Russia" and "walking away from NATO."
"It's just shocking. I've never seen anything like it," Biden said.
According to the American leader, he hopes that the death of the so-called Russian opposition leader Aleksei Navalny will push Republicans to support aid to Ukraine, but added that he is not sure that it will change anything.
Aid to Ukraine from US
US has not been able to approve new funding for aid to Ukraine for several months. This is due to differences between Republicans and Democrats.
Recently, the US Senate passed a bill to provide $95 billion in aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. 60 billion dollars have been pledged for our country.
In order for the bill to enter into force, it still needs to be supported by the House of Representatives and signed by Biden.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Johnson does not want to bring such an initiative up for consideration yet. He opposes the approval of aid to Ukraine without funding for border protection.
