The Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States, Mike Johnson, currently won't bring to consideration a bill on funding assistance to Ukraine, according to Johnson's comment to journalist Jake Sherman.

Johnson says that today he won't bring the document for extension of international aid funding to the House of Representatives for discussion and voting.

"I certainly don’t right now. We're dealing with the appropriations process. We have immediate deadlines upon us and that's where the attention of the House is in this moment," he told the journalist.

Background

On February 13, the U.S. Senate approved a bill providing aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan totaling $95 billion. In particular, over $60 billion is allocated for Ukraine.

For the bill to take effect, it still needs to be approved by the U.S. House of Representatives and signed by President Joe Biden.

Johnson opposed such an initiative. He may not bring the bill to the floor of the lower house of Congress for consideration. President Biden, in turn, called on the House of Representatives to urgently approve the bill.
