Biden urges Israel to avoid striking Iran's oil fields
American President Joe Biden believes Israel should not attack Iran's oil facilities in retaliation for the massive ballistic strike on October 1, reports The New York Times.
"The Israelis have not concluded how they, what they’re going to do in terms of a strike. That’s under discussion. If I were in their shoes, I would be thinking about other alternatives than striking oil fields.," Biden stated during yesterday's briefing at the White House.
When asked whether Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is abandoning a diplomatic agreement for a ceasefire in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, Biden emphasized that he supports Israel more than any other American president.
"I think Bibi (Netanyahu's nickname) should remember that," he added.
Biden also mentioned that his administration is considering possible sanctions against Iran and is still communicating with Netanyahu's team regarding potential responses from Israel.
Israel prepares to respond
Earlier, it was reported that Joe Biden is discussing potential strikes on Iran's oil facilities with Israel. Meanwhile, Tehran has threatened attacks on energy infrastructure.
Israel has stated it will respond to the launch of approximately 200 ballistic missiles from Iran. Most were intercepted, with assistance from the U.S. and the U.K.
According to the American State Department, Israel has not guaranteed that it will refrain from attacking Iran's nuclear facilities.
