Biden to speak about war in Ukraine at UN General Assembly meeting
US President Joe Biden will address the war in Ukraine as one of the world's major crises during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly session next week, states US National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby.
“I think you can expect him to talk about the modern crisis that that we're facing right now certainly Ukraine and and Gaza are two of the chief ones there,” he said.
The White House representative also noted that Biden will discuss how US leadership and coalition-building have shifted the dynamics in both conflicts and outline the way forward in these areas.
UN Summit of the Future
On September 22-23, the United Nations headquarters in New York will host the Summit of the Future, as well as the annual high-level debates involving heads of state and government as part of the opening of the 79th session of the General Assembly.
The summit is expected to conclude with the adoption of an agreed Pact for the Future, aimed at strengthening global cooperation and adapting to current challenges.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also set to attend the meetings.
On September 24, Zelenskyy will address a meeting of the Security Council.
Zelenskyy's speech at the General Assembly session is scheduled for September 25. The agenda will include discussions on permitting Ukraine to use Western long-range weapons to strike targets on Russian territory.
Additionally, the Finnish president will propose the exclusion of Russia from the UN Security Council for its aggressive war against Ukraine and the need to strip the country of its veto power.
