Biden to hold national security team meeting amid risk of Iranian attack on Israel
President of the United States Joe Biden will hold a meeting with the national security team amid growing concerns about the risk of an Iranian attack on Israel, according to The Guardian.
During the meeting, the issue of developments in the Middle East will be raised, as Washington is deploying additional fighter jets and warships in the region.
The Guardian reports that tensions have escalated following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and senior Hezbollah military commander Fuad Shukur.
According to the White House deputy national security advisor, the White House's goal is to "cool down" the situation in the region and prevent all sides from engaging in conflict.
Threat of Iranian attack on Israel
At the end of July, Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Tehran. Western media reports that he was blown up with explosives planted by Iranian special forces allegedly recruited by Mossad.
In response to these killings, Iran and Hezbollah have vowed to strike Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are preparing for potential multi-day rocket attacks and drone strikes.
Meanwhile, the US has begun bolstering its military presence in the Middle East to ensure defense capabilities.
