Biden on Ukraine war: 'We're headed into a very difficult winter'
US President Joe Biden warned that Ukraine and its allies face a tough winter ahead. He urged NATO partners to maintain their support for Ukraine, according to his statement during a farewell visit to Germany.
He emphasized that NATO allies must "sustain our support ... until Ukraine wins a just and sustainable peace."
Biden also condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin for his "vicious attack against Ukraine," asserting that NATO remains strong and more united than ever.
"We're headed into a very difficult winter. We cannot let up," he added.
Biden's visit to Germany
This visit marks Biden's final trip to Europe as President of the United States, ahead of the presidential election set to take place in November. Originally scheduled for last week as part of a historic three-day visit—the first by a US president in 40 years. He was also meant to chair the meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group at the Ramstein airbase in Germany. Biden's trip was postponed due to a powerful hurricane impacting the US.
Arriving in Berlin on the evening of October 17, Biden's visit is expected to last a day. He will meet with leaders from Germany, France, and the United Kingdom.
