Biden may push for Ukraine's accession to NATO before leaving office
President Biden may alter his position regarding Ukraine's accession to NATO, according to Financial Times.
As noted in the report, during his final trip to Europe before leaving office, Biden will chair a meeting of Ukraine's allies in Germany on October 12 in a Ramstein format.
A Western official informed about Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s discussions in Washington stated that there are preliminary signs indicating that Biden may agree to elevate the status of Ukraine's NATO membership application before he departs in January.
Zelenskyy’s visit and Ramstein meeting
At the end of September, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was in the US to present Ukraine's victory plan.
According to presidential spokesperson Serhii Nykyforov, Biden told Zelenskyy during their meeting that he would return on October 12 to the Ramstein meeting with some decisions and answers.
The next meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the Ramstein format will take place in Germany on October 12 at the level of leaders from 50 participating countries, chaired by US President Joe Biden.
Ukraine did not receive an invitation to NATO at either the Vilnius summit in 2023 or the Washington summit this year.
The US plays a crucial role in NATO, and Washington's position will determine Ukraine's invitation to the Alliance.
