Biden called meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister a positive development in relations
President Joe Biden has characterized the meeting with China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Washington as a positive development in bilateral relations, states John Kirby, a representative of the National Security Council at the White House.
"The United States and China are operating in conditions of acute competition, and we believe that the best way to manage this competition is through equally intensive diplomacy," noted Kirby.
According to him, President Biden saw the meeting with China's top diplomat as a good opportunity and a positive development for further relations.
The representative of the National Security Council at the White House also emphasized that President Biden, during the meeting, underscored the need for both countries to manage competition responsibly in their relations and maintain open lines of communication.
Biden's meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister
China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi is currently on a visit to Washington. He has already met with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
According to media reports, Wang Yi is in Washington to prepare for a visit by China's leader, Xi Jinping, which could take place in November.
It is planned that the head of China will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in San Francisco and meet with U.S. President Joe Biden.
Earlier, Xi Jinping stated that China is willing to cooperate with the United States as the fate of humanity depends on it.
