Russia and Iran use a very similar arsenal of weapons in their missile and drone attacks — short- and medium-range ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones, according to the RBC-Ukraine article Missile shortage looming? How Middle East conflict could impact Ukraine's air defense.

Iran uses a very similar arsenal of means for strikes as its partner Russia: the vast majority of missiles in a salvo are short- and medium-range ballistic missiles, significantly fewer are cruise missiles, and swarms of Shahed drones.

According to RBC-Ukraine informed sources, Moscow has begun helping Tehran with components for Shaheds, including Kometa-M communication systems.

Whether ready-made products are being supplied by the Russians is still being further studied, one of the interlocutors notes.

At the same time, Moscow currently no longer feels critical dependence on components for its Geran drones from Iran.

Russia ramps up drone production

Russia may use from 7 to 9 million unmanned aerial vehicles in 2026. Such a large-scale increase in drone production is forcing Europe to reconsider its own defense policy.

The media earlier reported that Russia’s military technology sector sees a transition to industrial production of new munitions for drones.

This indicates attempts to build a stable system of supply and unification of weapons for drones.

Defense Intelligence of Ukraine also published data on 21 Russian enterprises involved in the development and production of unmanned aerial vehicles that Russia uses in the war against Ukraine.
