Australia delivers most of 49 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, rest coming soon

Australia has delivered most of the Abrams tanks to Ukraine as part of a $160 million military aid package, Reuters informs.
Australian Defense Minister Richard Marles said Ukraine has already received the majority of the 49 tanks. The rest are expected to be delivered in the coming months.
"The M1A1 Abrams tanks will make a significant contribution to Ukraine’s ongoing fight against Russia’s illegal and immoral invasion," the minister said.
The tanks were included in the military aid allocated to Ukraine for defense against Russia.
Australia's aid to Ukraine
Australia has actively supported Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion. The country has provided more than $32 million in financial aid to support Ukraine's defense.
In February 2024, Ukraine formally requested Abrams tanks from Australia.
By August that year, the Australian Army retired its last tank of this model. Later, Australia pledged to transfer 49 M1A1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine under the military aid package.
However, the deliveries were delayed. In May 2025, the Australian government announced it had sent a batch of retired Abrams tanks to Ukraine despite opposition from some US officials over the deal.
