US President Donald Trump commented on whether his deadline for Vladimir Putin to agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine, set to expire on August 8, still stands.

Trump made the statement while speaking to journalists.

Reporters asked for clarification: "Mr. President, is your deadline for Vladimir Putin agreeing to a ceasefire still stand tomorrow?"

In response, Trump repeated: "It's going to be up to him. And we're going to we're going to see what he has to say."

Trump also noted that he is very disappointed.

Trump's ultimatum

Last month, Trump harshly criticized Putin for the large-scale strikes on Ukraine and gave him 50 days to reach a peace deal with Kyiv. He later shortened the timeline, setting August 8 as the deadline.

In the event of non-compliance, Trump threatened to impose sanctions on countries purchasing Russian oil, as well as additional sanctions directly against Russia.

Despite this, the Kremlin signaled its intention to continue the aggressive war and even threatened the US with nuclear retaliation.

On July 31, Trump announced that US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff would visit Moscow.

On August 6, Witkoff met with Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Trump described the meeting as successful.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia might now be more inclined toward a ceasefire with Ukraine.
