The Savasleyka airbase, which was subjected to drone attacks on the night of 14 August, was virtually unprotected. The anti-aircraft systems and machine guns were unable to withstand the drone attacks, Defense Express reports.

Eyewitnesses in the video of the attack on the airbase complain about the air defense system, which failed to shoot down a single drone.

"The reason is quite trivial - at the Savasleyka airbase, only ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft guns and machine guns are responsible for the entire air defense. The operation of more powerful weapons has not been recorded."

In particular, the NASA satellite service shows a powerful fire in the area of unloading and storage of fuel and lubricants.

According to experts, fuel and lubricants for the relevant types of aircraft based at these airfields are difficult to come by. They are made from certain types of oil and are not available at every refinery.

"So even the damage to the fuel reserves, as well as part of the airfield's fuel infrastructure, is already a significant result. And now the issue of basing the MiG-31K at this airbase is in question," the statement says.

The Russians have solutions, but even this development, according to experts, will cause significant additional complications for them.

Attack on the Savasleyka airbase

Explosions were heard at night at the Savasleyka airbase in the Nizhny Novgorod region (Russia). Satellites recorded a fire on the territory of the airfield. According to eyewitnesses, about 10 explosions were at the base.

According to preliminary information, MiG-31K aircraft carrying Kinzhal missiles may be based at this airbase.
