Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation explained why Russia launched a ballistic missile strike on Kyiv. According to the head of the center, Andrii Kovalenko, the attack was intended as a demonstration.

Why Russia is targeting civilians

According to Kovalenko, the overnight ballistic missile attack on Kyiv had no military logic. In his view, it was a war against civilians and an attempt to create an image for Russian society, which is paying increasing attention to fuel shortages and queues at gas stations.

"We are dealing with a pseudo-state and inhumane people," the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation said.

While Russia strikes Kyiv, Ukraine's Defense Forces are attacking Moscow

Kovalenko pointed to what he described as an important contrast: while Russia is striking Kyiv, Ukraine's Defense Forces are carrying out large-scale attacks on Moscow and other regions of Russia.

"The Russians will have fewer and fewer advantages in terms of weapons," he said, adding that parity in drones had once seemed impossible, but now the advantage is on Ukraine's side.

What brings peace closer

The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation acknowledged that Russia's attacks bring grief and tragedy, but stressed that unilateral Russian strikes have never brought peace closer.

"What brings real peace closer is the intensification of our strikes. In the future, missile strikes as well," Kovalenko said.

He also drew a historical parallel with Britain during World War II, urging people not to lose resilience despite the difficult circumstances.

Russia attacked Kyiv with ballistic weapons and cruise missiles overnight on July 6.

Earlier, during the night of July 2, Russian forces carried out another massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv. A missile struck a high-rise apartment building in the Darnytskyi district.
