Armenia officially approves Rome Statute ratification
Armenian President Vahagn Khachatryan has officially approved the ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, according to the Armenian President's website.
"On October 13, President of the Republic of Armenia, Vahagn Khachatryan, signed a statement for the ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, signed on July 17, 1998, and for the acceptance of the Declaration of Retroactive Jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court by the Republic of Armenia under Article 12, Part 3 of the Statute," the press service of the website reports.
What preceded
On October 3, the Armenian parliament ratified the Rome Statute. According to the statute, the country committed to implementing all decisions of the International Criminal Court.
It's worth noting that in March of this year, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova for the unlawful deportation of Ukrainian children.
The Kremlin's leader is required to be arrested in 123 countries worldwide that have ratified the Rome Statute or recognized the jurisdiction of the ICC.
However, following the statute's ratification in Yerevan, it was emphasized that this step would not necessarily lead to Putin's arrest in the event of his visit to Armenia
