Argentina president Milei forced to flee after crowd attacks car

President of Argentina Javier Milei was evacuated from a campaign event after protesters pelted his car with stones, Reuters reports.
The incident took place on August 27, 2025, during the campaign ahead of the parliamentary elections on September 7.
Milei was in the car together with his sister Karina, Minister José Luis Espert, and other candidates from the La Libertad Avanza party. During the attack, the president bent down to avoid being hit by objects and was quickly evacuated in a black minivan.
According to presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni, neither the security detail nor members of the delegation were injured.
The attack was likely organized by Peronists, opposition activists who threw stones, branches, and eggs at the car. As a result of the incident, two people were detained, one of whom was later released, while the other remained in custody for assaulting a government representative.

This attack occurred against the backdrop of a corruption scandal involving the president's sister, Karina Milei. She is accused by authorities of receiving bribes from pharmaceutical companies through the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). The president categorically denies these allegations, calling them lies, and promises to hold those responsible accountable.
The incident in Lomas de Zamora highlights the growing tension in Argentine politics ahead of crucial elections that may determine the future course of Milei's government.
