Argentina's President, Javier Milei, has decided to withdraw the country from the World Health Organization (WHO) due to "deep differences" regarding healthcare management, stated Argentina’s presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, during a press conference, Ambito reports.

Adorni explained that President Milei had instructed Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein to withdraw Argentina from the WHO.

According to Adorni, this move is based on "deep differences" regarding healthcare management during the COVID-19 pandemic, which, alongside the government of former President Alberto Fernández, led to the longest quarantine in human history and a "lack of independence from the political influence" of certain countries.

US withdraws from WHO

On January 21, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order to withdraw the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO).

He also annulled a letter from the previous president, Joe Biden, to the UN Secretary-General (dated January 20, 2021), which sought to reverse Trump’s executive order from his first term, initiating the process of the US withdrawal from the WHO.
