This October, Apple is preparing to present the new generation of the iPad mini. The update will be the most significant in the last two years—the screen design will change, and performance will increase substantially, according to Macworld.
According to analysts, buying the current iPad mini is not the most advantageous decision, as the gadget has not been updated since 2024 and remains the only tablet in the brand's lineup with an outdated camera placement.
However, the situation will change in just a few weeks.
Transition to OLED and new screen capabilities
The biggest innovation of the iPad mini 8 will be the abandonment of the classic LCD panel in favor of a modern OLED display. This will provide deep black colors, richer shades, and higher contrast.
In addition to improved color reproduction, engineers have also updated the front panel design:
- The front camera will move to the landscape (long) edge of the device;
- The bezels around the display will become significantly thinner;
- The overall screen diagonal will increase while maintaining compact dimensions.
At the same time, rumors are circulating online regarding the screen refresh rate: according to some leaks, the tablet may retain the base 60 Hz frequency instead of the smooth 120 Hz ProMotion.
Water resistance and vibrational speakers
According to sources at Bloomberg, Apple is testing a completely redesigned body with water protection meeting iPhone standards.
This solution will be a key advantage for users who choose a compact tablet as an e-reader.
To ensure the body's tightness, Cupertino plans to abandon standard speaker grilles.
Instead, the device may receive an innovative audio system based on body vibration, making the iPad mini the first device from the brand with such technology.
Performance and new AI capabilities
The "heart" of the device will be the new A19 Pro or A20 Pro processor. The new hardware is optimized for the operation of top-tier AI systems.
For stable operation of complex algorithms, the amount of RAM will increase by 50 percent - from 8 to 12 GB.
Price and release date
According to the latest data, Apple plans to release the updated tablet in October.
Currently, the current version of the iPad mini with 128 GB of memory costs from $599. Since the tablet will receive major technical changes, experts do not rule out a further increase in the starting price.
