Apple’s smart glasses will have no screen as Cupertino prepares Meta rival

Apple has once again changed the timeline for the release of its first smart glasses, Apple Glass. At the same time, Cupertino engineers are developing a new mixed-reality headset inspired by Meta’s solutions, according to a fresh analytical report by Mark Gurman for Bloomberg.
When to expect Apple Glass?
According to Gurman, Apple has set a new target release date for its smart glasses — late 2027.
This is not the first time the schedule has changed. The release was previously planned for late 2026 or early 2027, but development is taking longer than expected.
The first-generation Apple Glass will be similar to the joint product from Meta and Ray-Ban.
The device will have the following features:
- built-in speakers for audio playback;
- cameras for photos and video;
- smart features and artificial intelligence;
- no display for showing video at the initial stage.
A version with a full-fledged display will appear only in later generations of the gadget.
What will happen to the Apple Vision lineup?
Apple’s Vision development team is currently working on a completely redesigned headset codenamed N224.
Engineers are studying four device concepts, including the possibility of moving some internal components into a separate external module.
At the same time, Apple does not want to repeat the approach used with the Vision Pro, where the battery is separate from the headset.
Cupertino prefers a lightweight all-in-one design. However, making such glasses simultaneously compact, affordable, and capable of offering sufficient battery life is a challenging engineering task.
The project is currently in an uncertain state. If the device does reach the production stage, its release will take place no earlier than late 2028 or early 2029.
