Why is Apple changing the release timeline?
The new development schedule completely overturns earlier predictions from well-known insiders. It was previously expected that the ambitious device would be officially presented to the public by the end of 2026, with the first commercial shipments to customers starting in early 2027.
This timeline has now been officially shifted.
However, the delay also has a positive side for future users. The additional development and testing time will allow engineers to integrate advanced software solutions into the device.
At launch, the smart glasses are expected to run on a radically updated Siri voice assistant, which will feature full integration with Apple Intelligence.
What is the tech giant focusing on?
Apple aims to create a product that will significantly differ from all existing market alternatives. To achieve this, developers are preparing several unique features designed to attract users quickly.
Among the main highlights of the upcoming Apple smart glasses are:
- Exclusive design — the company plans to release the device in four different design styles and unique color palettes
- Medical certification — Apple sees strong potential for the device as a personal health assistant
- Vision correction — using augmented reality (AR) technologies, the glasses will be able to enhance and adjust visual perception in real time for users with vision impairments
Competitors are already ready
Another Apple delay gives a significant advantage to Meta, which currently leads the segment. Last year, Mark Zuckerberg’s team successfully launched the second generation of Ray-Ban Meta AI smart glasses, which came at a higher price but offered improved battery life.
Despite the head start enjoyed by competitors, Apple is not abandoning the promising wearable electronics sector and continues to invest in development in order to deliver a more advanced product to the market.
