Apple and Google have confirmed reports that Apple will use Google Gemini models to power a new version of its Siri voice assistant and other generative AI features, according to Engadget.
Two tech giants strike a deal
Apple and Google announced a multi-year partnership under which the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be built on Google Gemini models and cloud technologies. These will form the basis for future Apple Intelligence features, including a more personalized Siri, scheduled to launch later this year.
According to Apple’s internal assessment, Google’s AI technologies are the most suitable platform for Apple Foundation Models.
The company notes that the collaboration will open new opportunities for users, while Apple Intelligence will continue to run on Apple devices and in Private Cloud Compute, maintaining strict privacy standards.
Apple first demonstrated a generative version of Siri at WWDC 2024. In March 2025, the company announced a delay of the major voice assistant update until 2026, but the more advanced version of Siri is not yet ready for public release.
In June 2025, reports emerged that Apple was considering partnerships with OpenAI and Anthropic to develop Siri (in the current version, the assistant can access ChatGPT for specific queries within Apple Intelligence). Two months later, Google became a possible partner.
Interest in the collaboration intensified in November when reports suggested that the new Siri could be built on a custom version of Gemini, running on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute servers, with Apple expected to pay Google around $1 billion per year for the technology.
