Apple released the iOS 18.4.1 update, fixing critical vulnerabilities that have already been exploited by hackers. It is strongly recommended to install iOS 18.4.1 on compatible iPhones as soon as possible. Similar patches have also been released for iPads, Macs, Apple TVs, and Vision Pro, informs Wccftech.

Update details

Apple has fixed two serious vulnerabilities in iOS 18.4.1, iPadOS 18.4.1, macOS 15.4.1, and other updates — both of which were actively exploited in real-world attacks.

The iOS 18.4.1 and iPadOS 18.4.1 updates can be installed through the standard Settings app. To do this, go to Settings app, General, Software Update, and follow the on-screen instructions. The update is available to all users — no developer account is required.

According to the latest data, iOS 18.4.1, iPadOS 18.4.1, and other platform updates fix two serious vulnerabilities that could be used in an "extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals."

One vulnerability related to CoreAudio — processing a specially crafted audio file could lead to arbitrary code execution. The second vulnerability was related to the pointer authentication code, which also allowed an attack.

Both vulnerabilities were fixed in the latest updates, making them critically important to install on all devices.

The update also fixes a bug related to CarPlay, which caused connection issues in certain cars.

Updates for Mac, Vision Pro, and other Apple devices

The final version of macOS 15.4.1 is also available for everyone and can be installed through the Software Update menu in System Settings. According to Apple’s description, the update includes bug fixes and security improvements, making the system more stable and user-friendly.

For the Vision Pro headset, the visionOS 2.4.1 update can be installed through Settings, General, Software Update. The update also includes bug fixes and security patches — it is recommended to install it as soon as possible.

tvOS 18.4.1 can be downloaded through Settings on Apple TV, going to System, Software Update. Additionally, an update for HomePod Software 18.4.1 for HomePod and HomePod mini smart speakers has been released — it is also recommended to update them.

Currently, Apple is also testing iOS 18.5 and other updates — their release is expected early next month. Details about the vulnerabilities will be made available after the developers finish testing.
