Apple presents new iMac with M4 chip, improved camera, and AI
Today, Apple updated the 24-inch iMac with the M4 chip, which debuted in the iPad Pro earlier this year. This update comes approximately a year after the release of the previous iMac with the M3 chip, according to Apple’s official website.
Specifications of the new iMac
Apple has updated the iMac, which is now equipped with the M4 chip. The new iMac features the M4 chip with an 8-core CPU and up to a 10-core GPU. The base model costs $1,299 and includes two Thunderbolt USB-C 4 ports, while the more expensive models start at $1,499 and come with four ports.
It also comes with accessories that now use USB-C charging ports instead of Lightning. Like the previous model, the new iMac has a 24-inch 4.5K display. However, Apple offers a new nano-textured glass option for an additional $200, designed to reduce glare and reflections.
Additionally, the base RAM of the iMac has been doubled to 16 GB compared to the previous model, with the option to configure the more expensive version to 32 GB.

The new iMac from Apple also comes with a 12-megapixel webcam and new Apple Intelligence features, which are starting to be implemented today, such as AI-based writing and editing tools and a revamped Siri.
The updated iMac is available in seven colors: green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver. Notably, a larger model is not offered, as Apple has previously confirmed that it does not plan to replace the discontinued 27-inch Intel-based model.
The M3 chip was the main upgrade in this computer; otherwise, it looked the same as the M1 iMac from 2021, which debuted with a significant redesign. Apple stated that the M3 model is more than twice as fast as the M1 version.
The company first announced the M4 chip alongside the new iPad Pro in May, but the chip had not yet transitioned to the Mac lineup. The M4 chip in the iPad Pro is built on what is called second-generation 3nm technology, and the company claims that the chip features a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU.
