Appeasement only fuels aggression, Ukraine's FM warns on WWII anniversary

Foreign Minister of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha recalls that it was the actions of the aggressor that led to World War II. He stresses that today the world must not repeat these mistakes in countering Russia.
According to the Minister, the world must remember what led to the tragedy: the weak response of the international community and the belief that concessions would stop the aggressor.
"Today, it is critical to recall what came before that day: weakness and naive belief that territorial concessions would "please" an aggressor," Sybiha stresses.
He stresses that although the Nazi Third Reich bears full responsibility for the outbreak of World War II, the tragedy was made possible by the unwillingness of other countries to make difficult decisions, preferring weakness over strength, mistaking wishful thinking for reality rather than realistic strategies.
Sybiha stresses that the best way to honor the memory of tens of millions of victims of World War II is to prevent the same mistakes from being repeated in modern conditions.
"The best way to pay tribute to dozens of millions of people who perished in WWII is to prevent the same mistakes today. Unity of allies, pressure on aggressor Russia, and strengthening for Ukraine are critical for security and long-term peace for all of Europe," the Minister concludes.
During commemorative events marking the start of World War II, Polish Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz called for people not to get used to the war against Ukraine that Russia started.
Yesterday, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also called on Europe and the entire West to show determination and solidarity in countering aggressive Russia.
Earlier, US Vice President JD Vance stated that the war could end within 3-6 months.
