A suspected drone was once again reported to have crashed in Romania during Russia's overnight attack on Ukraine on October 2. A fire broke out at the site, according to the Romanian Ministry of Defense press service.
According to the ministry, Romania's radar surveillance system detected new drone attacks on civilian and infrastructure targets in Ukraine, near the river border with Romania, in the northern part of Tulcea County.
At around 5:00 a.m. local time, a report was received that an object, presumably a drone, had crashed near the village of Plauru in Tulcea County, after which a fire broke out.
No casualties or material damage were reported.
A fire truck and teams from the Ministry of National Defence were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the fire. The area was cordoned off, and specialized teams from the Ministry of National Defence will investigate the site.
"We would like to point out that the radar systems of the Ministry of National Defense did not detect any unauthorized incursions into the country's airspace last night," the ministry added.
Drones in Romania
On September 29, fragments of an unknown object resembling a drone were found in eastern Romania. A fire broke out at the site but later went out on its own. There were no casualties or material damage.
On the night of September 27, an unknown aerial target entered Romanian airspace near the border with Ukraine.
Two fighter jets and a Romanian military helicopter were scrambled to track it. The target remained over Romania for several minutes, after which its signal disappeared.
In addition, on August 16, Romania reported that it had shot down a drone that had entered its airspace. A Spanish F-18 fighter jet carrying out a NATO patrol mission was authorized to engage the target and shot it down.
