Romania investigates suspected drone debris found in field

Debris from an unidentified object resembling a drone was found in eastern Romania on September 29. Authorities have cordoned off the crash site and are preparing to determine its origin, according to Romania's Ministry of National Defense.
The debris was found on farmland in Insula Mare a Brăilei, near the village of Gropeni in Brăila County. According to the Romanian ministry's preliminary information, the object may have been a drone.
The fall was reported overnight. A local resident called the 112 emergency number to report the incident.
According to the resident, a fire broke out at the site after the object fell. The fire later went out on its own. No injuries or property damage were reported.
Military personnel to examine the debris
After the incident was reported, units from Romania's Ministry of Internal Affairs and representatives of the Romanian Intelligence Service arrived at the site. They cordoned off the area where the debris was found.
A specialized team from the Ministry of National Defense was also sent to the scene. Its specialists will inspect the area and examine the fragments.
The examination should help establish what fell on Romanian territory and under what circumstances.
Did Romania record an airspace violation?
Romania's Ministry of National Defense also said its radar systems detected no unauthorized entry into the country's airspace overnight.
Despite the discovery of the debris, Romanian authorities have not reported a detected airspace violation in connection with this incident.
On the night of September 26–27, an unidentified aerial target entered Romanian airspace near the border with Ukraine.
Two fighter jets and a Romanian military helicopter were sent up to track it. The target remained over Romania for several minutes before its signal disappeared.
Romania also reported shooting down a drone that entered its airspace on August 16. A Spanish F-18 fighter jet on a NATO patrol mission was authorized to engage the target and shot it down.
