Ankara expects peace initiatives for Ukraine to begin by June - Turkish Foreign Ministry
Türkiye expects that peace initiatives regarding Ukraine will be detailed soon, likely by June this year, states Foreign Minister of Türkiye Hakan Fidan in an interview with Anadolu.
According to Fidan, Ankara expects the start of an initiative to resolve the war in Ukraine in the near future.
"We hear a number of initiatives from US President Donald Trump in this regard. But before the meeting of the leaders of Russia and the US, behind-the-scenes work and preparations are necessary," said the Turkish Foreign minister.
Ukraine-Russia negotiations
Ukraine's partners have increasingly begun raising the issue of peace talks with Russia and its leader Vladimir Putin.
In particular, US President Donald Trump stated that he is holding "very serious talks" with Russia about ending the war in Ukraine. After his inauguration, Trump instructed the US Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, to end the war in Ukraine within 100 days.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that excluding Ukraine from US-Russia negotiations about ending the war would be "very dangerous."
Yesterday, Zelenskyy also stated that he is ready to negotiate with the Russian leader Vladimir Putin. However, this is possible only if it is the only path to peace.
