Andrew and Tristan Tate leave Romania for the US amid legal battle

Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have left Romania on a private jet bound for the United States, according to BBC. The brothers reportedly departed from Baneasa airport in Bucharest early Thursday morning, ending a three-year stay in Romania where they have faced allegations of rape, trafficking minors, and money laundering.
The Tates, who hold dual UK-US nationality, had been barred from leaving Romania for over two years but were recently granted permission to travel. Romanian prosecutors confirmed that the legal case against them remains active, with both brothers required to return to Romania at a later date. The Romanian Special Prosecutor’s Service, DIICOT, stated, “The request to revoke the preventive measure of judicial control has been rejected, and it remains in place in both cases where criminal prosecution is underway.”
The brothers were first arrested in December 2022 during a raid by Romania’s Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT). Authorities accused them of leading an organized crime group involved in human trafficking and exploitation of women for adult entertainment. The investigation began after allegations surfaced from multiple women who claimed they were coerced into participating in adult content, leading to widespread media coverage and international scrutiny.
Questions have arisen about the role of the US in facilitating their departure. Romania’s prime minister previously denied any pressure from the Trump administration to allow the brothers to travel, despite earlier reports suggesting the issue was discussed at the Munich Security Conference by Trump’s special envoy. The brothers, known for their far-right connections and support for Trump’s campaign, are reportedly headed to Florida.
In addition to the charges in Romania, the Tate brothers are wanted by UK authorities for allegations of rape and human trafficking, which they also deny. Their extradition to the UK will be addressed once the legal proceedings in Romania conclude. Despite leaving Romania, the brothers remain under judicial control, and the investigation continues.
Presidential candidate detention in Romania
At the same time, Romania is experiencing internal political challenges, as demonstrated by the detention of a presidential candidate linked to radical social media activity. This incident has sparked debates about political freedoms and digital influence, highlighting the country’s complex legal landscape.
