Anchorage, Alaska chosen for Trump–Putin meeting - White House

US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet in Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt's briefing.
"On Friday morning, President Trump will travel across the country to Anchorage, Alaska, for a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin," Leavitt said.
She clarified that the American leader is "determined" to end Russia's war against Ukraine and stop the killings. According to Leavitt, Trump's steadfast priority "will always be for peace and partnership" when such results can be achieved.
"There is no leader in the world right now who has been more committed to preventing wars or ending them than President Donald Trump," the press secretary stated.
Leavitt also noted that this meeting will take place because it was initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin. He requested personal contact with Trump during talks with US presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff.
According to her, the purpose of the meeting is to give Trump and Putin an opportunity for "better understanding of how we can hopefully bring this war to an end."
"This administration has truly used every lever, taken every measure to achieve peace through a diplomatic settlement," Leavitt said.
