On Tuesday, January 7, specialists discovered the anchor of the tanker Eagle S at the bottom of the Gulf of Finland. The vessel likely "lost" it during the breakage of several underwater cables, Yle reports.

According to the news agency, the anchor was found on the seabed. It was lifted to the surface using the Swedish Navy vessel HMS Belos.

Local investigators have already seized the anchor.

The main version is that the cables were torn by the anchor of the tanker Eagle S, which was heading from a Russian port.

Cable break in the Baltic Sea

At the end of last year, underwater communication cables between Finland and Estonia were damaged in the Baltic Sea. After that, Finland detained the vessel Eagle S, which is likely a tanker from Russia's "shadow fleet" passing through the area where the cable break occurred.

Recently, it became known that Finland suspects seven crew members of the vessel of vandalism under aggravating circumstances. They have been prohibited from leaving the country.
