All responsibility for peace now lies with Putin, Italian Foreign Minister says

Russian President Vladimir Putin bears responsibility for establishing peace with Ukraine. Ending the war depends on his decision, states Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, according to ANSA.
He expressed hope that Moscow would recognize Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's willingness to engage in direct talks and the West’s desire to achieve peace between Ukraine and Russia.
"All the responsibility lies with Putin today," Tajani emphasized.
He added that peace between Ukraine and Russia depends solely on Russia’s will. Tajani also pointed to the "discouraging" signals, such as Russia’s overnight drone attacks on Ukraine.
The Italian official also noted that a 30-day ceasefire remains a key condition for "serious negotiations."
Meeting in Istanbul
Russia continues to reject the proposal for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire with Ukraine. Instead, Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed interest in holding talks with Ukraine in Istanbul on May 15.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated he is ready for a personal meeting with Putin in Istanbul.
It remains unclear whether the Kremlin leader will attend such a meeting. Political analyst Volodymyr Fesenko told RBC-Ukraine’s YouTube channel that the likelihood of such negotiations taking place is currently close to zero.
