Albania considers creating ministry run entirely by AI to fight corruption

Albania is integrating artificial intelligence into the work of state institutions to fight corruption and speed up the process of joining the EU. The idea of creating a ministry fully run by AI is even being considered, Politico reports.
According to reports, at a press conference in July, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama stated that AI could become the most effective element of the government and a tool for fighting corruption and increasing transparency.
"One day, we might even have a ministry run entirely by AI. That way, there would be no nepotism or conflicts of interest," he said.
According to the prime minister, local developers could even create an AI model to appoint people to the position of minister. This could make Albania the first country with a government in which all ministers and the prime minister are artificial intelligence.
Although no official steps have yet been taken to integrate AI tools into the work of state institutions, Rama urged that this idea be seriously considered.
According to the outlet, AI is already being used in Albania to monitor public procurement, which is an EU requirement, as well as to analyze tax and customs operations in real time and detect violations.
In addition, AI is used to monitor the country's territory with drones and satellites — in particular, to detect illegal constructions, unauthorized beach developments, or cannabis plantations.
