Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first football billionaire thanks to a record-breaking contract with Saudi club Al-Nassr, Bloomberg reports.

Ronaldo renews contract with Al-Nassr

In June 2025, the 40-year-old Portuguese forward extended his deal with the Saudi club until June 2027.

The contract exceeds $400 million, and due to Saudi Arabia's tax laws, Ronaldo receives a substantial portion of it tax-free. The deal also includes bonuses, a stake in the club, and access to a private jet.

Rise in wealth and off-field records

The Billionaires Index values Ronaldo's fortune at $1.4 billion, making him the first footballer to reach this level of wealth.

For comparison, legendary tennis player Roger Federer holds $1.3 billion, while basketball star Michael Jordan has less than $100 million.

The Portuguese star earned most of his fortune through salaries at European clubs, endorsement deals with Nike and Armani, and investments in real estate and business ventures.

What's next for CR7

Ronaldo plans to invest in football clubs and businesses in Portugal after retiring. His new contract includes a 15% stake in Al-Nassr, giving him additional income streams and influence within the club.

"People, especially my family, say, It's time for you to stop. You've done everything. Why do you want to score a thousand goals? But I don't think so. I think I'm still producing good things, I'm helping my club and the national team, and why not keep going?" Ronaldo said.
