Adrien Brody has won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in The Brutalist, marking his second Oscar after his 2003 win for The Pianist at age 29, The Guardian reports.

His main competitor was Timothée Chalamet, nominated for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown. Brody now joins an elite group of actors with a 100% Oscar win rate across multiple nominations. In his speech, he reflected on the uncertainty of an acting career, thanked director Brady Corbet and co-writer Mona Fastvold, and expressed gratitude to his partner, Georgina Chapman, and her children.

The Brutalist

In The Brutalist, Brody plays László Tóth, a Hungarian architect who survives World War II concentration camps and moves to the US to begin a distinguished career. There, he is hired by a tycoon (Guy Pearce) to design a major community center. The film explores Tóth’s artistic struggles and relationships, including with his wife (Felicity Jones).

His performance, praised as a career-best, earned him Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Critics Choice Awards, though he lost the SAG Award to Chalamet. The film also faced minor controversy over the use of AI to refine Hungarian accents, which the director defended.

In total, the picture got 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and won three of them — Best Actor (Adrien Brody), Best Cinematography, and Best Original Score (Daniel Blumberg).
