Hair has always played a significant role in shaping a person's image. Often, during washing, it can rapidly fall out due to several reasons, reports Livestrong website.

Normal hair loss during showering

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, normal hair loss amounts to 50 to 100 strands per day as part of the natural hair renewal process.

On a healthy scalp, approximately 90 to 95% of hair follicles are in the anagen, or active growth phase, which lasts for years. If these strands are not damaged, they will not fall out. The remaining 5 to 10% are in the telogen phase, and it is during this stage that these 100 or so strands fall out, often when you wash or comb your hair.

However, there are other reasons why hair falls out during showers.

Hormonal fluctuations

Pregnancy and childbirth, as well as menopause and thyroid gland disorders, affect hormones and can cause hair loss.

Dermatologist Mary Stevenson explained that hair loss following menopause may result in thinning of the central part of the scalp.

Medications

Recovery from illness, as well as certain medications used to treat depression, arthritis, high blood pressure, and heart conditions, can lead to hair loss during showers.

Stressful events

Divorce, death, illness, significant weight loss, and job loss are just some external stressors that can deplete hair on your head.

Certain styles and procedures

Excessive chemical perms, heat styling, dyeing, and chemical straighteners can lead to dryness and hair loss.

Nutritional deficiency

A poor diet, especially one low in iron or protein, can lead to excessive hair loss.

How to stop excessive hair loss in the shower

To prevent excessive hair loss after washing, it's important to gently comb your hair.

Choose a gentle shampoo and always use conditioner every time you wash your hair.

Hair dryers and straighteners heat the hair and can cause breakage. When using hair dryers, use them moderately and in the lowest setting.

Also, tight ponytails, buns, and braids can pull on your hair, causing it to fall out.
