5 dangerous weight loss methods that pose risk to your health
Various weight loss methods can be found online. Some of them are not entirely healthy and can lead to dangerous consequences. It’s important to know which weight loss methods should be strictly avoided, according to Ukrainian gastroenterologist Yevhenia Belinska.
Fasting
According to the expert, radically restricting daily calorie intake or eliminating key components from the diet, such as fats or carbohydrates, disrupts the body's functioning. This is because the body is unable to obtain the necessary nutrients from food.
As a result, diseases may develop, and there can be problems with general well-being, the quality of the skin, hair, and teeth.
The most dangerous type is dry fasting, where a person not only abstains from food but also from drinking water. Toxic substances that would normally be expelled with fluids accumulate in the body, potentially causing numerous health problems. Additionally, severe dehydration occurs.
Exhaustive workouts
Excessive exercise without adequate recovery is harmful to health. According to the doctor, in the long run, it can lead to menstrual cycle disruptions, poor overall well-being, and exhaustion.
Induced vomiting
It is important to know that consistently inducing vomiting leads to inflammation of the esophagus and can trigger gastroesophageal and duodenogastric reflux. After such practices, returning to normal eating habits is difficult without specialist help after such practices.
Laxative use
The gastroenterologist noted that regular use of laxatives disrupts bowel motility and can also cause inflammation. After six months of continuous laxative use, the bowel may stop functioning, leading to serious physiological disturbances that can be fatal. Therefore, this method is extremely harmful.
Diuretic use
Sometimes diuretics are used to eliminate excess fluid and reduce body weight. There is a term called furosemide-associated nephropathy, which refers to kidney disease resulting from the use of furosemide.
