Dietitian Amy Goodson explains that a nutritious breakfast high in fiber, carbohydrates, and proteins helps boost your metabolism after the overnight fast.

This process, known as the thermic effect of food (TEF), involves energy expenditure for digesting and absorbing nutrients. A good breakfast, especially one high in protein, can boost metabolism and promote fat burning throughout the day.

If you skip breakfast, you may feel more intense hunger later and need high-calorie, fatty, and sugary foods.

Green tea
Pour yourself a warm cup of green tea. It is rich in epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which is known to boost metabolism and trigger fat burning, especially during workouts.
The caffeine in green tea also provides a mild stimulating effect, further increasing calorie burn. Research shows that the combination of EGCG and caffeine can help break down stored fat, particularly in the belly.

Apple cider vinegar

A cup of coffee a day can help fight belly fat. Caffeine speeds up metabolism and burns fat. Your morning cup also wakes up your nervous system, signaling fat cells that it's time to break down fat.
"Studies show that caffeine can increase energy expenditure and fat oxidation, particularly in lean individuals, making it a great morning drink for fat loss," says the dietitian.

Ginger tea

Protein shakes are great because they are filling and tasty.
"A morning protein shake made with whey or plant-based protein can help boost metabolism due to the thermic effect of food," says Goodson.
